"I have one pound seventeen here, and two and six at the
office; I can cut off my coffee at the office, say ten shillings,
making two nine and six, with your eighteen and three
makes three nine seven eight nine seven, dot
and carry seven - don't speak, my own - and the pound
you lent to that man who came to the door there,
you've done it! .. did I say nine nine seven? yes, I said
nine nine seven; the question is, can we try it for a year on
nine nine seven 1"
"Of course we can, George! " she cried.
An astrological message to the Scorpio girl: (Scorpio woman, that is; these females are really never girls, not even when they're twelve, and although I've thus termed them in other Scorpio sections, in this one she'll particularly need to be a woman) - and so, to the Scorpio woman who's wondering about a Virgo male who has caught her eye, and almost trapped her heart: Go ahead and love him. He needs you. You can help him.
This man has a problem. He always has a problem, whatever type Virgo he may be, and there are several types. In any case, the problem will be precisely tailored to his individual need. Actually, Virgo men have more than one problem. There are his own personal ones, which come in various shapes and sizes, plus those of all the chaotic, untidy, and careless people he knows, whose livesare a dreadful mess. But it's his private problem of any given time which is ofmore urgency to the lady Eagle. With her mystical bent and powerful psychic penetration, she's just the one to help him with it. It could be delicate and trifling,or of a serious nature. Whatever it is, she's needed.
As only one example, she could be involved with the type of Virgo man who possesses a simply startling imagination, at times too vivid, his Mercury-Vulcan-ruled mental world peopled with all manner of creatures not of this dimension, which he can describe in exquisite, if sometimes frightening, detail, down to the last whisker and broomstick. This will be especially true if he has a Scorpio Moon or Ascendent, which he very well may, if the two of them are attracted to one another, he and this enigmatic Scorpio woman, who wishes to protect, respect, and love him, all at once. A Scorpio influence in his birth chart can cause the Virgo's imaginary mental playmates to be - well, not very playful sorts. Under a Scorpio vibration in his own Virgo nativity, they could take strange forms
indeed, dark and sinister, leading him to spook himself through a Virgo-like compulsion to investigate anything from witchcraft and voodoo, to hypnosis and cloning. Some Virgo men are so avidly inquisitive about evil, despite - or maybe because of - their inherent purity, they can take some really weird trips into the twilight zones of the human psyche. But this is, actually, all to the good, because when he's scared himself silly through his neat and careful, painstaking research of the shadows, and he's sitting there overcome by a vague uneasiness he's too embarrassed to admit, the blankets pulled over his head, hiding from himself, she'll know just what buttons to push to bring him out from under his tent.
"Oh, my goodness!" she'll exclaim, in mock shock. "Just look at that! There are five loose threads at the corner of this quilt - no, it's more accurately six loose threads, and the satin binding has a tear in it." Instantly, the Virgo man's head will peek out from his chocolate-brown blanket, his eyes as bright as can be, to check the flaw she pointed out, and he'll quickly mend it. Wise woman, she is.
Or she could be involved with another type of Virgo male, slightly in the majority, who is unable, no matter how hard he tries, to see the flowers for the thorns, the snow for the slush. As acute as his intellect may be - and probably is, for all Virgos are smarties, with very sharp, analytical brains - his finer astral senses are so out of tune he can't see the sound of the surf or hear the full Moon, let alone see Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" or hear the music of an Andrew Wyeth painting. This is a real handicap, as you may well imagine(and as you may also well imagine, the Virgos reading this will all believe I've mixed up my verbs. I'm resigned to an avalanche of letters).
Unlike the Virgos with the overactive imaginations, described in our first example, these more typical Virgos possess only the merest wisp of an imagination, and it's a sad thing to observe, although it's not a problem beyond the powers of the Scorpio woman to banish. As an example of this kind of Virgin, I
know a very handsome, super-intelligent Virgo man, who's kind and gentle to dogs and babies, and sparkles with a multitude of commendable virtues. To look at him, you'd never guess he had a problem to his name. But, alas, he does.He was given a copy of St. Exupery's The Little Prince to read by his equally handsome, super-intelligent, but wiser, more aware, and sensitive Moon-in Scorpio, Leo brother, who hoped the book might open new and exciting vistas to him. It was a vain hope.
This Virgin's only reaction, after reading it, was to spend several minutes carefully explaining to his sibling precisely why there could not possibly be anyone living on an asteroid. He explained it all quite nicely and scientifically and logically - and, of course, courteously (Virgos are all very mannerly). When his brother told him he'd missed the whole message of the book, a puzzled frown engraved itself on his perfectly chiseled features. "What lesson could a grown man learn from a children's book?" he wondered.
One might as well ask what lessons can be learned from children themselves. One might as well not believe in elves and druids and leprechauns or in any sort of magic. Can you imagine what this Virgo would have said twenty years ago, when he and his brother were teenagers, if the latter had remarked
that it would be interesting to take a stroll on the Moon?
There are, of course, many Virgos who are more enlightened than this one(and even he may someday read St. Exupery's book again, with a more open mind), but the average Virgin, whatever his individual type, has, to some degree,a need to learn that the really important things in life are those which can only be seen with the heart - and a Scorpio woman is an excellent teacher of the intangible. Her task in instructing this man that there are more things in Heaven and on Earth, George, than you dream of with your slide rule and wheat germ, tofu, and Tums-for-the-tummy will require all her talents of concentration. A Virgo man is sensational with details, a little fuzzy on the larger picture. He needs a woman who will be patient with him as she teaches him about asteroids, auras, the reversal of gravity, and astral projection - although, if she's in love with the first type of Virgo we discussed at the beginning of this section, she should take it easy on the astral, because of all those little goblins who haunt his dreams. Too much concentration on this sort of thing could - and please forgive my scatological frankness - bring on a severe case of the eternal Virgo affliction, constipation.
Her most important lesson will be the one she can teach him about the birds and the bees. The birds and bees have long been ancillary to explaining sex (and she'll have a few lessons to teach on that subject too, no doubt), but I use the reference in its literal sense. A good place to begin is with Nature's enigma of the common bumblebee. By all the inflexible, Virgo-type laws of physics and aerodynamics, related to body weight, wing span, and so forth, the bumblebee is designed in such a manner that he cannot possibly fly. Fortunately, neither Virgos nor scientists have yet managed to communicate this irrefutable logic to the bumblebee, and so, in his abysmal ignorance, the cheerful, trusting little chap goes right on flying!
Extreme patience is necessary when enlightening the Virgo man to this great secret of metaphysics, because he'll strain his brain cells considerably in attempting to answer the puzzle, will finally be forced to admit he's unable to do so - and could consequently suffer a minor nervous breakdown, along with his constipation and ever-present indigestion. It's downright mean to cause him to cope with all three at the same time.Whatever lessons she's teaching this intelligent, gentle man, the Scorpio woman should be aware that he may become distracted when she's near enough so he can smell her perfume .. near enough to reach out and touch . . . near enough to confuse his mental processes, make his pulse race faster, and lead his thoughts into the other kind of birds-and-bees meditation.
The sexual relationship of this 3-11 Sun Sign Pattern couple is normally one requiring adjustments to be made on both sides, yet it can gradually become an experience of great beauty, once the adjustments have been made. The physical demonstration of their love will be perhaps easier for her to express than for him. If it's less than perfect every time, he may brood and wonder what's wrong, blaming himself. (Virgos blame themselves for nearly everything.) She instinctively knows that lovemaking is like every other area of human contact between those who love - sometimes a miracle of mutual joy, sometimes only a quiet exchange of affection, at other times passionately intense, but at all times able to bring them closer to solving the mystery of each other's deeper dreams and needs. His emotional nature is somewhat more cool and controlled than hers. Still, he longs wistfully to learn the intangible, inexpressible secrets of mating she seems to know so instinctively. She, in turn, is drawn by the sheer honesty and simplicity he brings to their intimacy, for Scorpio, although very curious about the sensual aspects of sex, inwardly senses the purity of its mystical meaning - and potential. Neither Virgos nor Scorpios ever abandon their whole selves to sexual blending. Each holds back, for different reasons, some private, untouched core of beingness. To achieve total consummation together is a challenge which can continue to stimulate them both all through their years of loving, for at any moment - or never - the holding back may end, allowing them to achieve real wholeness. Such an unexpressed, but deeply felt anticipation, not surprisingly, often enriches the sexual side of a relationship rather than harms it. "Man's reach .. and woman's .. must exceed their grasp, or what's a heaven for?"
Because he possesses an inquiring nature, he will be hurt by her silences. This man is curious, he needs to know and understand everything around him, especially the woman he loves, and she is not easy to fathom. He'll be more successful if he realizes that predictable formulas don't always work to solve the human equation. It's elusive, unlike a problem in trigonometry, and the answer cannot be precalculated. You understand scientific theories and financial statementswith the mind. You can only understand a woman with your heart. . . and the heart is seldom logical.
A Virgo man can switch from endearing tenderness and a gentle manner to inquisitiveness, sarcasm, and a coldly analytical attitude. Too much of the latter mood switch, and he could regret it. A Scorpio woman who's been wounded more than once will be unconsciously compelled to teach the one who has hurt her a lesson. If he doesn't learn, if he continues to repeat the mistake, she will leave. But he will be warned, long in advance, that she's unhappy. If he's tuned-in to her on the channel of love, he'll pick up the signals in time to heal the hurt and save their love. These two have much in common, such as basic honesty and integrity, a thirst for knowledge, and strength of purpose. They will be friends, as well as lovers, defend each other against outside threats. When the unhappiness of either is initiated by themselves, he's sensible enough to persuade her to talk it over, and not allow emotion to completely rule reason. If they share a negative Luminary (Sun-Moon) or Ascendent aspect between their nativities, neither may be very sensible. He may retreat into stony hardness and burrow into himself, sulking. She may fly into some intense and frightening rages. Still, it's always a lot easier for friends to patch up a quarrel than for lovers to do so, and since the two of them are influenced by the 3-11 vibration, and are, therefore, both friends and lovers, even a violent disagreement needn't be the end of the relationship. It could be, instead, the beginning of a new understanding.
This man and woman have many lessons to teach one another. In the past, many people have tried to get him to see with his heart, and failed. But with her, he's willing to try. In the past, many people have tried to persuade her to be less suspicious of happiness, to be more open with her feelings, and have not succeeded. But with him, she's willing to try. Maybe that's because, as Goethe wisely observed . . . we only really learn from those we love.
