The LIBRA - SCORPIO Relationship

... it's only fair to take this into account.

Libra and Scorpio form a 2-12 Sun Sign Pattern, which means many things, as you will read in the back of this book, but one of the most important of these is Karma's decree to the Libran that there is a mystery to be absorbed from the Scorpion . . . and there is, to be sure. More than one mystery.

The roles of student-teacher will soon emerge, which is only fair. After all,Libra, you play the same instructor role toward Virgo as Scorpio plays toward you, so it all evens out around the wheel. Since Libra represents the twelfth house of the karmic past to Scorpio, the latter will be unusually tolerant of Libra faults and failings, the differences in their individual personalities and dispositions.Scorpio has already passed through Libra's Venus vibration (probably quite recently, relatively speaking) and therefore possesses a strange comprehension of its pitfalls, along with a wistful memory of its joys, yet would prefer not to return there, having moved on to bigger and better problems under the Pluto essence.

"I feel I have something to learn from this person," muses Libra, when exposed to Scorpio's unrelenting gaze. "I somehow understand this person better than anyone else ever will," thinks the Eagle, after studying the Libran carefully

And so they approach each other, tentatively at first, but with a certain degree of fascination - for the unknown, on the part of Libra - for the known and vulnerable on the part of Scorpio.

This is not, strictly speaking, the same teacher-student vibration of the 4-10 Sun Sign Patterns. Yet the Scorpion has a subconscious recall from some misty past incarnation, of the dreadful disappointments that can follow on the heels of Libra optimism, justice and fairness, and so is sympathetic to Libra's tendency to try to see the positive side of all questions - and is often willing to give a helping hand to this Sun Sign still beset with Venus seductions, this soul experiencing the  struggle of trying to balance the Libra Scales.

Libra, keenly sensing the need to benefit from Scorpio's wisdom, is anxious to plumb Pluto's secrets. But Libra is a mental Air Sign, and will not accept every word from Scorpio without a few healthy arguments (Libra calls them discussions) and an occasional mental chess game with teacher.

Whether the relationship is that of friends, parent and child, business associates, mates or lovers, Scorpio soon discovers that Libra is a charmer, pleasant, bright and soothing to be around - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays Libra can be a study in contrariness. Sundays depend.

Most Librans do like to talk, especially the females of the Sun Sign. There are also some Libra men who seem shy and reticent, but challenge their sharp wits with an argument or a one-sided statement  and they'll lose their shyness and talk your head off trying to convince you that there are two sides to every question, every problem, every situation. These quiet, untalkative Librans are only remaining silent while they perform their mental convolutions, ready to whip them out to win a victory in the next argument.

Scorpios have decided likes and dislikes. Their preferences are never fuzzy, their opinions often set - as if in cement. The natural adaptability of the Scorpio Water element seldom wins out over the Fixity of the Scorpion Sun Sign nature.Of the three Water Signs, Pisces is far more adaptable than either Scorpio or Cancer, since Pisces is a Mutable Sign, Cancer a Cardinal Sign, and Scorpio an extremely Fixed Sign. Studying such nuances, and recognizing them, helps a lot.

These set opinions, these pronounced likes and dislikes of Scorpio, can cause tension when they offend Libra's innate sense of justice and fair play, and Libra voices disapproval. When this happens, Scorpio will temporarily forget his or her natural tolerance for Libra, and become either mildly frustrated or even secretly bitter over what the Scorp interprets as permissive, lazy thinking which is a mistake. Libra may be physically lazy periodically, usually following a long surge of incredible vitality (it takes these ups and downs to keep the Libra scales evenly balanced), but there's nothing lazy about the Libra mind. How can a mind grow lazy, with all that hyper-activity or weighing back and forth every decision, from whether it's healthier to eat carob ice cream than to eat none, to whether to vote Democrat or Republican or not vote at all - or to form a new political party? Such continual brain exercise as Libra receives from the trauma of daily and hourly decision making, keeps his or her mental muscles rippling and flexible. Sorry, Scorpio, but calling Libra mentally lazy is an unfair judgment. In the area of permissive thinking, however, you have pretty good grounds for complaint.

A Libran can be amazing in his or her ability to sustain an optimistic "tomorrow will be better" attitude in the face of setbacks, letdowns and catastrophes, which is truly a lovely thing to observe at close hand (or even at a distance),but after a while it begins to chafe. The more cautious, perceptive Scorpion asks himself (or herself) if Libra can possibly be sincere. (Libra is, yes, ever-so-sincere.) How can any human, wonders the Scorp, so eternally continue to see only the good side of everything? Wait. Eventually Libra's Scales will tip and they'll be looking on the dark side. If you don't believe me, just say anything at all strongly affirmative to Libra (very aggressively) and watch him (or her) take the opposite stand. Or the middle road. Sometimes, they take both sides at once. Approach a Libran, point your finger and say loudly, "You're a Libran, and that means you like to argue about everything, right?"

"Well.. yes and no," answers Libra.I love to have Libra people approach me to discuss my first book, Sun Signs, and spend a half-hour or so telling me why they don't think the Libra chapter fits them. When they're all through, I say sweetly, "But you just proved you're a Libran by arguing about every word I wrote." For a moment, they're silent. Then Libra will continue, "I didn't argue about every word. There are some things in it that fit me perfectly." "Which ones?" I ask. Then Libra spends another half-hour telling me how accurate the description of the Sun Sign was. Afterward, I feel kind of split-down-the-middle, which is the way Librans always leave you feeling. But they're fair!

Scorpios can, surprisingly, rather smoothly handle Librans who are temporarily behaving like cranky crocodiles. It's the 2-12 vibration between them.Scorpio seems to instinctively sense that Libra needs encouragement, that when Libra finds the right outlet for either creative or intellectual expression, he or she will become a most cooperative person - friendly, adaptable and willing to compromise in order to maintain harmony and avoid tension. A little extra patience is worth it to Scorpio to achieve such a desirable goal. A Scorpion always has an excellent reason for every tactic, a hidden motive behind every strategy or course of action in human intercourse. Of course, Scorpio should be warned
that the Libra willingness to be friendly, adaptable and cooperative may be, on occasion, merely a weapon to gain what Libra wants, however genuine these virtues are most of the time. Librans are incredibly adept at manipulating situations to their own private ends, with apparent harmless intention and a lack of aggressive attitude, while projecting oozing oodles of charm - so adept that unsuspecting souls are often fooled into doing it Libra's way (oh, that persuasive voice, that heavenly smile!) without fully realizing how they've been programmed to goose-step in the direction Libra had in mind all along.

Scorpio, however, is far from "an unsuspecting soul." Scorpio invented the word "suspicious." You don't fool one easily. Governed by the powerfully perceptive Pluto, most Eagles can see straight through the silk and satin of Libra's wiles and seductions. Libra can trick Scorpio only once, if that often. After the first experience, Scorpio will have memorized the Venus strategy of sweet cajoling, and will be armoured against the allurement of such wheedling next time.

LIBRA: (all smiles and dimples) That's a truly excellent letter you wrote, and it reads very smoothly - but do you think it really expresses what you want to say?

SCORPIO: Yes. It expresses exactly what I want to say, which is why I intend to mail it. I'm glad you liked it. Do you have a stamp?

Scorpios are no pushovers for Libra charm. They can be, when they choose, equally as subtle in the strategies of achieving their objectives as the airy, mentally quick and highly intelligent Librans. And far more persistent. Inwardly, the Eagle never admits defeat. But Scorpios are sensitive, and can be quietly hurt when Libra is oblivious to a need. Libra is not a sign noted for in-depth analyzing of human nature. They're better at analyzing stock market reports, legal briefs, color charts, art masterpieces and political polls. Libra may be sweetly sympathetic, for example, to Scorpio's nervousness around kangaroos. But it may not occur to Libra to ask why. Scorpio would like to be asked, even needs to be asked why. He (or she) may have waited a long, lonely time for someone to care enough to really want to hear the story about that scary trip to the zoo as a child. Speaking of childhood, here's an unpublished Mother Goose rhyme she wrote for the Venus- and Pluto-ruled, while she was shaking out her feathers one day: Water and air, water and air.. may only reach harmony when Libra treads carefully .. and Scorpio is fair.

LIBRA Woman - SCORPIO Man

In her dream he had rent the film that obscures the
Neverland....

... Elation must have been in his heart, but his face did not
reflect it.

As bright, intelligent and logical as she may be, the Libra woman can spend a lifetime unsuccessfully trying to read the innermost feelings of her Scorpio man from his bland features. She'll never penetrate all the secrets behind his impassive mask. He's a walking enigma that will forever resist a final solution. If he loves her, he'll share more of himself with her than he ever will with anyone else,
but this doesn't mean he'll either invite or permit her to wander around in the more private recesses of his mind, heart or soul. These secret compartments are reserved for himself and his Maker - his God.

If he should happen to tell her this, her fine Libra mind will probably find it a good excuse to initiate an argument (excuse me, a discussion) on the subject."What do you mean, your God? Aren't you aware that we have co-Creators,that there is a Mr. and Ms. God, that even your Maker has a female counterpart,as does everything in the entire Universe?" Libra girls are always a trifle Women's Libbish, even when they disguise it with their perfumed femininity and dimpled smiles, but she's on the track to truth when she offers that particular spiritual conjecture. Right on! Libra, and bless your Venus wisdom.

Buried just beneath the surface cool, in even the most evolved of Scorpio men, is the revenge syndrome - so she should beware of driving him into too many inlets of resentment. The retaliatory surprises of a wounded or angered Scorpion can seriously shake her Libran equilibrium. This man is deeply sensitive behind his image of self-sufficiency and confidence. Now, a word of warning to him. Despite her soothing voice, beautiful features and sparkling toothpaste smile, Libra is a masculine Sun Sign, also a Cardinal Sun Sign of leadership. A smart Scorpio man knows the Webster definition of both "masculine"and "cardinal." So he should comprehend that this.girl, with all her womanly ways, will not become a contented concubine, not even for him. She can, at first, be undeniably convincing in her pose of soft feminine submission, especially if she really loves him. But behind her cheerful countenance and satiny facade, she's miserable unless she's made responsible in some way regarding matters of importance. Brooms, mops, dishwashers and diapers don't fall in that category. I mean, they're important.. but they're not challenging or mentally stimulating, and if she isn't mentally stimulated she'll become a very sad lady.Of course, admittedly, there's nothing more stimulating than trying to capture the love of an Eagle, but once she's won that round, she'll become restless. She's a regular female Ulysses, this girl - with an additional problem Ulysses didn't have when he sailed the seven seas - she needs companionship. She withers when left alone. Libra rules marriage and partnerships. Just imagine what it's like to so need the comfort of a cozy marriage, yet to be constantly longing to dash out and conquer the world at the same time. Do you see why her Scales
keep dipping in indecision and frustration?

Because Scorpio is the natural ruler of the eighth astrological house of other people's money (among other things) and, in addition, represents the second house of money and material possessions to Libra, these matters will assume more importance with this couple than with most. The income of either or both will be the subject of much emphasis in their relationship. Whether this financial emphasis is positive or negative will depend on the Sun-Moon aspect they share, and other mutual planetary influences, plus - as always - their own efforts to harmonize in this area of their life together. But they can be certain that money will rear its little (or large) green head as an urgent problem for decision and discussion, not infrequently. Separate checking accounts. I strongly advise separate checking accounts. Actually, that's good counsel for every couple of any Sun-Sign composition, but especially for this one. A Libra woman will not be happy asking her man for a few dollars when she wants to subscribe to Ms. magazine or go shopping. Even Pisces girls don't do that anymore, and Libra women were liberated long before they or you or I ever heard of ERA when they were born.

If she wants to go to work, he should be enthusiastic. He may as well be because she'll do it anyway. Scorpio can be intimidating, but a Libra woman is not easily intimidated. She'll seesaw back and forth for a while, pretending that her indecision trauma is caused by a concern that her taking a job might upset him or their home life. She's putting him on, using these anxieties as excuses to cover her necessary but frustrating period of Scale balancing. In the end, she'll do exactly as she wishes to do. Whatever that might be. It's hard to guess. But when she does finally decide, she'll be quite firm about it, you can be sure. If it's a job with a title, and relates somehow to the arts, so much the better. She'll betouchingly happy, for Libra must lead in some manner - and to her, anything artistic or beautiful isn't work, it's play. The happiest careers are always those in which we would become involved by choice, even if we weren't paid. To work with love is a holy thing.

In astrology, Libra is closely associated with the law, among other matters. So he shouldn't be surprised if she often sounds like a lawyer when they're debating (I mean discussing) some point of disagreement. Even if he's an attorney himself, she'll rock and sock him now and then with her Libra logic. He may think he's fallen in love with, not a woman, but his old college law professor, and have to look closely to be certain. Those starry eyes and chiseled features and that voluptuous Venus figure should quickly reassure him. Yes, she is a female.Still, her masculine mental processes will give him a start now and then. She'll take turns being sweetly bossy, then docile, which will confuse him, and very few things confuse Scorpio. It can throw him into periods of inexplicable depression, during which he'll ask himself who is really in control of the relationship.(It's a valid question.) On the other hand, his habit of silently appraising her virtues, when she needs to hear them praised aloud, of being critical in a detached and unemotional way, can trouble her more than he guesses.

The Libra woman will have to call on all her considerable reserves of charm and tact to learn to be tolerant of this man's dark moods, his long silences. He hasn't left her, he's only swimming out a little further from shore than usual, into the deeper waters of meditation upon life's mysteries, and he doesn't need a bodyguard to float along beside him. He prefers to make such nocturnal excursions alone. Chattering, or insistent questions like "What are you thinking about?" or "Why are you so quiet, sweetheart?" will be answered with a cold stare and more silence. Even the talkier Scorpions with several planets in Gemini,Aries or Leo, will have reclusive moments.

In the beginning, it will cause no small amount of tension between them that he sometimes communicates best with a glance, or perhaps a touch - while she communicates best the way all humans were made to communicate, verbally, with sounds called words. A Scorpion, however gregarious he may be regarding other areas of his life, will never find it easy to be excessively verbal when expressing his emotional or sexual or romantic feelings. If there's a harmonizing Sun-Moon aspect between their birth charts, she'll understand this, begin to measure her words and communicate more often with her dazzling Libra smile - and an eloquent silence.

Should they, however, share a square or opposed Sun-Moon aspect, the prognostications for permanence are not good. If he's one of those Scorps with a weakness for drugs or alcohol, and she's one of those eternal "party girl" Librans, there will be trouble. Libra creates the social atmosphere to tempt Scorpio's latent weaknesses. Her fondness for fun and people and entertaining can be a sticky net for the Scorpion who's easily lured into losing himself through various escapes, from drinking or the temporary high (or low) of grass, to ever more dangerous artificial stimulation. Life is always ready to seduce the Pluto ruled into dark waters, and a dimpled, charming Libra girl can be pretty seductive.

However, an evolved Scorpio male of tenacity and purpose (and there are plenty of these) who can resist such siren songs - and the enlightened, mentally stable, emotionally balanced Libra woman (the kind who far outnumber the Libran party girls) have a solid chance to form a strong association when they fall in love with their heads and hearts in equal measure. He may sometimes suspect she's not completely leveling with him, not saying what she really believes, never mind how many words she uses. Are they reflecting her true feelings? He wonders, for he is suspicious by nature. It's a dual problem, because she'll be troubled by his subtle manner of avoiding an immediate answer to her questions. What lies behind those impassive features? She wonders, for she is curious by nature. There are moments when he'll appear to be more stubborn than he really is, when he insists on a course of action without explaining to her logical mind why he's so set on it, believing she should trust him to have the wisdom to know what he's doing - and he usually does. It's safer for their marriage if she trusts him than if she doubts him. Yes, I said marriage. None of these loose,Aquarian Age live-in plans for the Libra female. She may go along with a live-in arrangement for a while, but eventually she will marry, or leave. Marry her, or you'll lose her - to another man, perhaps - or she'll find a sensational career to wed. Just so she's not alone, and she knows where she's going. Libra women play all games for keeps.

Many Libra females retain their own names when they marry. It's a kind of "thing" with some of them. If a Scorpio man permits this, you can safely wager every penny in your piggy bank that he's one of the very rare, evolved Eagles, and fatten your pig by winning. She may hesitate before deciding, though what will happen when the children are born? On the other hand, will she miss the warm intimacy of bearing his name while she's keeping intact her independence as an individual? There are actually two sides to it, you see, and . . . .

After a few hours or days or weeks of her weighing the balance, even a stubborn Taurus man might give in, and say, "Do it! Do it!" So will the Scorpio man. He'll likewise become weary of her weighing and shout (though he rarely shouts), "DO IT! For % %¢¢&&**!! sakes, DO IT! Like I said when I first suggested it, I think it's a sound idea" (even if he secretly hates the idea). The funny thing is that the idea itself will probably have originally been hers, not his. She'll sweetly plant it in her lover's mind so subtly and gently,he'll forget where it came from and be innocently convinced it was his suggestion in the first place. That's what astrology means by the female Libran's "iron fist in a velvet glove." When it punches out the perception of a Scorpio, you can be certain it's mighty powerful, however velvety.

These two aren't as emotionally passionate as they are mentally in tune.Sexually, they can anticipate each other's wishes, which is good. But they aren't always aware of how to satisfy those wishes, which is bad. The Eagle should study the verse in Ecclesiastes, which states that there is "a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing." One of the latter times is when she's struggling through the throes of some important decision. He may try to relax her, help her unwind with intense lovemaking, then be deeply wounded to discover that his endeavors have only tied her into more pretzels and made her restless, nervous... when the act of love should result in peace and contentment. She can be an ideal partner for him when her Scales are balanced, and at these times, their physical Oneness can bring them so spiritually close to each other that tears could fill their eyes at the wonder of love's power to transport the soul into beauty through "becoming one flesh." But when this woman's Scales are tipping, she'll be as pleasant to make love to as the Lady Macbeth.

The Scorpio man will probably satisfy every sensual and erotic longing, every secret need for affection and fierce devotion the Libra girl has ever dreamed about romantically - except one. He definitely will not recite poetry to her in the middle of their mating - nor will he make whispered declarations of his devotion aloud to her during their intimate moments. She'll remind him, perhaps even coach him. He will attempt to comply. But since this sort of thing lacks spontaneity, she'll begin to think he doesn't really love her. He does. But this man is uneasy with open displays of sentiment and romance. He thinks he proves he loves his woman by both his loyalty and his sexual intensity. Why should she need words, to hear him repeat "I love you" constantly? I don't know why, but she does need it. A compromise may be necessary. She should try to be more gentle, less demanding of him and he should realize that this woman doesn't take a crystal ball to bed with her, so how is she to know his feelings are as deep and sure as when they first wept together over love's joy, unless he tells her sol Using Libra logic, I'll remind the Eagle that a small amount of spoken endearments will prevent a large amount of unreasonable jealousy. Whether his features are plain or handsome, the magnetic force field of Pluto pulses in his aura, and his undeniable magnetism with women can make this lady very jealous. Could Juliet have doubted Romeo, with such constant declaration of his love? Nor did she. Nor will his Libra woman, if she receives her Juliet birthright from him.

Wish them luck in their efforts to blend their vibes. It might be a blessing to us all that they fell in love. She can provide an idealistic outlet for his controlled but driving ambition, helping him guide it into channels that could bring justice to the planet's abused and weary souls. His deeper wisdom will check her airy indecisions, gently molding them into a sensible approach to her daydreams. Her logical mind will help him straighten out the complicated tangles of career, family or personal involvements which are sooner or later faced, to some degree, by every Water Sign, even invincible Scorpio.

The combining of the Eagle's bottomless confidence with his Libra woman's great sense of fairness can be a beneficent thing for everyone within their sphere of influence. Their personal love has an excellent chance to expand outside themselves into a tremendous energy for all mankind and womankind. If the two of them should silently meditate together within the Pyramid or whisper magic mantras in an ancient Incan temple what wonders might occur! Our co-Creators would both approve.

LIBRA Man - SCORPIO Woman

I know not why it was, perhaps it was because of the soft
beauty of the evening, but there came over him a desire to
confide

Here's an astrological insight about a Libra man his Scorpio woman may already know. He's softer than most men, more gentle, more easily hurt. Just as the female of his Libra Sun Sign is stronger, tougher underneath than most women. It's a contradiction faced by the two sexes of any masculine Sun Sign conflictingly ruled by a feminine planet. I digress deliberately, for this subject will sooner or later be of vital importance to these particular lovers.

Libra is a masculine Sun Sign, ruled by the feminine planet Venus. Capricorns, for example, face the same dilemma, Capricorn being a feminine Sun Sign under the control of the masculine planet Saturn. It makes the men of the sign a little more feminine than usual - the women of the sign a little more masculine than usual, which is beneficial in an evolutionary sense. A man is not less macho because he's sensitive enough to weep (Jesus wept), nor is a woman less feminine because she knows her own mind and has the courage of her own convictions.

The problem repeats itself in an even more concentrated way with all the Sun Signs. The masculine Sun Signs also ruled by a masculine planet - Aries,Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius - make it difficult for females born under their influence to convince their lovers they're really girl-types, longing and needing to be cherished and conquered, never mind how they sometimes behave or how many banners they carry in Women's Lib parades. The feminine Sun Signs also ruled by a feminine planet -Taurus, Cancer, Virgo and Pisces (yes, Virgo's true ruler, Vulcan, is a feminine planet) present the converse problem to males born under their influence, making it difficult for them to project to their ladies that they're really strong, courageous types, longing and needing respect and recognition, never mind that they sometimes behave as if they couldn't care less about such things.

For the foregoing reasons, the both masculine planet-ruled and masculine Sun Signs of Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius often produce males who are a shade too masculine - while the both feminine planet-ruled and feminine Sun Signs of Taurus, Cancer, Virgo and Pisces often produce females who are a shade too feminine. Out of balance, so to speak. (Libra will understand that!) These are the girls who infuriate the ERA leaders, the ladies who enjoy being submissive to their husbands, and don't really want their "freedom."

Gemini, we'll skip. Geminis are Twins, and that should be self-explanatory.Gemini's ruling planet, Mercury, is a tricky, double-talking magician, who changes sex when it suits some Mercurial purpose, in the twinkling of an eye.

Is Scorpio one of these sexually upside-down, out-of-balance or overly balanced (sexually) Sun Signs? Any astrologer who claims an absolute "either-or"answer to that is less cautious than I care to be concerning the mysterious planet Pluto. Scorpio is, of course, indisputably a feminine Sun Sign. But.. Pluto? Scorpio's ruler? The awesome force and explosive power of Pluto is that of Mother Nature herself - and has anyone ever dared to call Mother Nature a man? Yet - force and power of such magnitude as Pluto's are normally associated with the masculine gender.

It bears consideration and meditation. In both natal (birth) aspects and astrological predictive work, through transits and progressions, Pluto likes to hide the truth, to explode the unanticipated, often indicating the opposite polarity of a hidden meaning to disguise a karmic purpose. Would you really like to know the sexual secret of this dark, silent and enigmatic ruler of Scorpio - Pluto? All right. It's contained within the mystery of the Holy Trinity. An in-depth explanation of the sexual identity of the planet Pluto is hidden within "The Twelve Mysteries of Love" in the front of this book, beginning on page 12. I told you Pluto likes to hide things. (Scorpio people even hide things from themselves and then forget where they hid them.) Pluto doesn't forget. And so you certainly couldn't expect the answer to Pluto's secret to be contained within any Scorpio chapter, where you'd be likely to look. Like everything else about Pluto (and Scorpios), it will be waiting somewhere inconspicuously, silently . . . for those who care enough to search.

And so, although we know that the Libra man was born under a masculine Sun Sign but is ruled by the ultrafeminine planet Venus - adding an attractive depth to his emotional nature and interesting sensitivity nuances to his personality we aren't sure about the Scorpio woman. Is she ruled and influenced by masculine or feminine forces? When you discover the answer (in the place where Pluto has hidden it, within this book) you will comprehend the true reason for the power behind the minds and wills of Scorpios, including the women born under this Sun Sign.

I introduced this in-depth gender meditation for two excellent reasons one being to hint to my readers that astrology is very definitely on the side of equality of the sexes - the other being that the subject matter itself will keep Libra and Scorpio busy arguing back and forth with each other for many hours,
while we discuss their areas of compatibility and incompatibility. After a time, while the Libra man is still making reasonable, fair and logical points about it,the Scorpio girl will suddenly freeze, stare or glare at him, murmur something like: "I happen to know. You do not," then lapse into her Fixed Sign silence. That's the way many of the quarrels, discussions or whatever climax between these two, with Libra still pressing arguments for his side - and his Scorpio woman holding tenaciously, intensely to her deep, inner conviction, totally unimpressed with all his logic and charming persuasion.

This should give the Libra man a clear idea of what he's facing with a Scorpio girl. His dimples and charming manners may have other females palpitating the moment he grins and projects his brilliant mind toward them like a romantic laser, but this woman will see through him. She'll know right away whether he's playing a game with her, as Air Signs are wont to do - or seriously attracted to her. In other words, she'll know if his intentions are honorable or not.

I said she would know his intentions, not necessarily base her decision on the degree of their honorability. (If there's no such word as "honorability,"Webster has goofed, and you may so inform them. It's kind of like "nobility." I just coined it.) Honorability may not be the deciding factor with her. She just likes to know things. To Scorpio, knowledge is power. If his initial intentions aren't honorable, she might even be intrigued. Scorpios of both sexes enjoy experimenting with challenging emotional situations. If he's not honorable now, perhaps she can make him honorable later, by the sheer force of her animal magnetism. The Libra male is hereby warned that what begins as a casual flirtation with a lady Scorpion may very well end up being a long-term commitment, and for years he'll wonder how it happened. If their Sun-Moon positions are compatible, he won't really care how, he'll just be glad it happened. He'll be happy she "guessed" that his feelings were genuine before he knew it himself. But if their Sun-Moon positions are incompatible, he may later have cause to regret his airy, amusing (he thought) excursion into her deep emotional waters.

It may take Pluto power for the Scorpio woman to enlighten this man to the awareness that he's not flirting, that he really loves her - but it won't be so difficult to make him realize he wants to marry her. If he's a typical Libran, he was born to form a partnership, either business or marital, and his romantic nature prefers the latter. The unhappiest people on the planet are Librans who, for some unique reason, never married. They go around singing the "People" song from Funny Girl: "Lovers .. are very special people .. they're the luckiest people in the world .. " - so wistfully they can break your heart. To this man, wedlock can be beautiful. But the trouble with wedlock, as Christopher Morley once observed, is that there's not enough wed - too much lock - and such could become a legitimate complaint of the Libra man married to a Scorp. Because she feels everything so intensely, her possessiveness and jealousy are far more than temporary feelings or passing moods. Her need to know he's faithful to her is a fierce need. She can burn with torment if she even suspects otherwise, and she can be the most suspicious of women. The Libra man is so handsome, romantic and gentle (most of the time, when he's not being cranky) that women often are fascinated by him, and some of them will seek excuses to engage him in intellectual conversation - with other things in mind than the intellect. How can he help it if he's so attractive to the female sex?

He'd better help it, if he's made a promise to a Scorpio woman. In his wildest imaginings, he might not be able to image some of her reactions, her ways of getting even, if she's been really hurt, her pride deeply wounded. They will be subtle, perhaps, but they will sting. Libra is known to astrology as "The Peacemaker," but although he may breezily and effortlessly settle disputes between his friends, he may have to call for help in the form of an outside mediator at home when his wounded Scorpion is inwardly boiling in outrage. "Don't try to charm me, I know you," she'll tell him coldly. This lady may be deceptively sweet and quiet much of the time, but that's just her mask, to hide her inner turmoil. She is no doormat for a philandering male. In no way is she this.

On the brighter side, it's almost certain he'll enjoy making love to her, because her sex drive is as deep and trembling as he'd like his own to be. She'll teach him many lessons of ecstasy. Without her, his attitude toward physical love might have remained somewhat shallow, and he might have searched for a long time for the kind of loving he always believed in but had never found. As a lover, this man is both susceptible and sentimental, both romantic and affectionate, and these qualities will appeal to the Scorpio woman who longs, and truly needs, to possess entirely the man she adores. Initially, she may be the dominant partner in their lovemaking, and this could disturb his sense of balance, but eventually he'll find a tender way to teach her their mating will be more intense if they play an equal role. There's a sweetness to the Scorpio sensuality that almost approaches spirituality, for every Scorpion subconsciously knows that sex and religion are, in some mysterious way, interrelated .. and this will touch his heart in a haunting way. Yes, these two are usually well mated, with much sympathetic magnetism between them physically, assuming there are no severe afflictions between their birth planets or their mutual Suns and Moons.

His sense of fair play will appeal to her own sense of justice and good judgment.Scorpio is loyal and honorable, and so will admire this in others. In most general matters, they'll be in agreement, but in personal matters, he must take care not to injure her dignity. That's always a calamitous mistake with a Scorp. As for his real need to argue or discuss things verbally until a solution is reached, she'll go along with it, even enjoy their private debates - they keep her from being bored - but when one of their discussions has reached a climax, bringing on her silent stare - when she closes up and indicates that the matter,as far as she's concerned, is settled, he'd be wise not to pursue it further.

Although she's capable on rare occasions of exploding into fury, most of the time she possesses the wonderful patience of all Water Signs, and is therefore nicely suited to cope with his changes of mood, when his Scales dip up and down. If any woman knows how to help him become balanced again, through gentle persuasion, it's this one. Call it subtle or call it sneaky, it's her talent. He'll feel that, with her, in some way things always turn rightside up again more easily and quickly than with most other people. He thinks it's some strange, intangible vibration in her aura. No need for him to know it's her power to plant mental suggestion almost hypnotically when he's down, to bring him back up.The result is what counts.

She will be moved by his tenderness and his sentiment. Libra men are so sentimental, they've pretty nearly taught women to be sentimental too. I know it's supposed to be the other way around, but if you believe that, you haven't read the first page or two of this section of this chapter closely enough. Would you care to discuss it? Let's don't. If we do, we'll be in this chapter forever. She won't give in, and he won't give up trying to make her give in. You know?

LIBRA Woman - SAGITTARIUS Man

"My liking for parties, George."

"My fatal gift of humour, dearest."

The average Sagittarius man is not as marriage-oriented in his youth as he might be, or as the Libra girl would like him to be. She thinks in terms of togetherness in the total sense; so, naturally, if she's in love with him, she images rings and vows. There's nothing wrong with that; in fact, a marriage between them would likely be successful and stimulating. But if this man doesn't work the wanderlust and curiosity out of his system before he weds, he may satisfy those powerful Jupiter urges after he weds. Which is preferable?

Now I've done it. I've given the Libra girl a choice. It will take her a time to sort it all out and make a decision, and we can't just wait around while she's carefully considering all sides of the question, so best to continue with our examination of her relationship with a Sagittarius male. She'll catch up with us later.

Not all, but many male Archers are reluctant to leap into legal liaisons the first moment they're sure it's love. It isn't that this man is against marriage, but he just managed to break loose from his family's smothering hold on his mental, emotional and physical activity, and he needs some time to bask in his freedom, before losing it again. After he's satisfied himself that the world is definitely round, tried on two or three jobs or careers for size, read up a little on Tibetan mysticism, traded in a dozen or so cars, mastered the art of hang-gliding in the Rockies, tried out some cross-country skiing, adopted a score or so of homeless animals, made an attempt to run for political office - and checked out every third girl he sees (at a distance, Libra - stay optimistic!) to confirm his opinion that his own Libra lady is as supremely smooth and superior as he first thought she was - he'll be ready to settle down to a discussion of a long-term commitment.

It seems wiser and safer to allow the Archer to shoot a batch of his arrows into the air first, then have the assurance when he returns that most of his curiosity and some of his longings have been fulfilled, and that he's now anxious to start out on his quest all over again, this time with his woman by his side.

On the other hand, if she lets him go free, and he roams too far, he may forget to return, get lost somewhere out there in his beckoning dreams - whereas,if she'd been firmer from the start, he might still be holding her in his arms, while they listen to the silvery sound of rain on the roof - or holding her hand,as they stroll toward the stables to take a moonlight ride on their horses, smelling the sweet hay feeling the cool night air on their cheeks. I just don't know. What do you think, Libra? (She's back with us now, and should have decided. No, she hasn't. I can tell by the frown wrinkling her lovely Libra forehead.Well, we won't rush her.)

Naturally, there are exceptions, but whether or not to marry is one of the major problems facing this particular 3-11 Sun Sign Pattern man and woman who are in love. Libra unconsciously feels frustrated unless she's sharing life's ups and downs, joys and sorrows, hopes and hassles - with another person. A Libra woman alone is like a pair of Scales with one tray missing, so you can see how it makes her feel useless. You can't weigh anything into perfect harmony and balance when half your equipment is missing - and the man she loves is the other half of this woman's equilibrium equipment as a total human being. (Unless she's one of those intensely dedicated Libran career women, with a compatible business partner, in which case she'll be content for a reasonable length of
time - but not forever - without a mate.)

A Sagittarius male doesn't actually fight togetherness, because he isn't fond of being alone either. He's much happier with a friend beside him as he clowns and bounces and seeks his way along today's trail, leading into tomorrow's highways. If the friend is also beautiful, dimpled, sweet and huggable, that's even better. If she should also be bright enough to match wits with him and exchange philosophies (which this girl surely is, and then some), he has no objection if she grabs her camera, field glasses, pup tent, sleeping bag, canteen and flashlight, and tags along with him. It's only when she starts leading the conversation into dead-end streets like buying property or taking a steady job that he strains at the leash. When he's older, he'll mow his lawn and pay his taxes like any other man, but meanwhile, there are sirens out there, singing to his heart a song more seductive than her Chanel, her charm, her delectable dimples, and sadly .. yes, even more alluring than her soft embrace. Jupiter rules retirement in astrology, and this often causes Jupiter-ruled men to decide to retire first, and work later. They get it backwards.

The Libra girl has stopped frowning. She's smiling now, with that expression of sweet bliss you always see on the composed features of a Libran who's reached a firm and final decision. She's rejected both choices, and settled for one in the middle, to make it come out more nearly even. She won't try to hold him, nor will she allow him to go tramping around the town, the state or the world, mailing her cards and letters. She will go with him. Good girl! See? I told you she'd catch up with us.

It's an excellent idea for the Libra woman who loves an Archer to go along with him, rather than to try to force him into her mold. However soft, gentle and velvety her manner, he'll sense the danger of being smothered and become restless. She should realize from the beginning that she'll never completely control this Centaur-Clown creature with the sparkling eyes brimming over with dreams. He was born into the vibration of a masculine Sun Sign, also ruled by the masculine planet, Jupiter, and although Libra is a masculine sign, Libra's ruler, Venus, is all feminine. In some ways, this may seem to give her an advantage, because she can think like a man, yet appeal to him in irresistible female ways. It's a powerful combination, but it will never force a double masculine macho vibe such as the Archer's to submit to petticoat persuasion - or if it should, he'll be genuinely miserable within, try as he may to hide it. And the purpose of love is happiness, not misery.

He'll be attracted by her fine mind, and touched by her optimism, so like his own. She looks for the same silver linings as he, behind every cloud. Since she tends to live in a world of her imagination, troubles are never quite real to her. Even those that do manage to penetrate her dreamy consciousness with the sharp stab of reality are normally not allowed by Libra to remain there for long. Her clever mind and talent for logical deduction will usually find a way to solve any problem - or to deliberately discard it, before it grows into a major crisis. She's amazingly capable of turning her back on ugliness, once she's decided there's no way it can be beautified. Sometimes, a Libra woman will solicit admiration, even when she's aware that it's flattery, and to some degree, insincere. She can talk herself into believing anything, true or false, if it makes her feel cherished - one reason why Libra girls marry early and mistakenly. Still, there are those lovely times when her very optimism turns a negative into a real positive, through the sheer steadiness of her faith. It doesn't happen every time, but
enough times to convince her it's worth trying, because there's always the chance that maybe tomorrow

She is, however, sensitive to hurt, and to sharp words. With all her ability to paint rainbows over grey clouds, and despite her natural Libra longing for peace and harmony at any cost, if he pierces her soft heart with too many stinging arrows, she'll weigh him in the cold light of Libra logic, and find his love too lopsided for her. She admires his cleverness and quick wit, but she won't be his pincushion or his dart board.

A Libra woman respects honesty and idealism, because these are qualities she possesses herself. She enjoys parties and people, social gatherings, art and music, as much as she enjoys reading, learning, debate and all forms of mental challenge. The Sagittarius man is molded in just the right shape to fit her needs and desires. The perfect woman for him must be generous, outgoing and gregarious,be his mental equal and his heart's twin. She must believe, as he does, that tomorrow will be a better day, and think it's exciting to do things on the spur-of the moment. He needs a woman who never nags him, who believes in his dreams, understands the word "freedom," and who will be kind to his animal
friends. A Libra woman is molded in just the right shape for the Archer. She's probably molded in the right shape otherwise too. Being such close relatives of Venus di Milo, most Libra girls inherit her appealing curves, feminine mystique and classic beauty, which is even more effective sculpted in the flesh than it is in marble.

He's quick to sense every unspoken mental, emotional or sensual desire in her, almost before she knows it herself. He's also quick to resent the appeal of his Libra lady to every male within the radius of hor completely irresistible Venus  smile. They admire her mind, along with her other attributes, and since she so enjoys admiration, she won't discourage them the way he'll expect her to and will finally demand that she does. She's not as fiery as he, and will probably be more tolerant of the way other women are excited by his contagious enthusiasm. But with both of them so attractive, and exuding such a love of life and people, romantic jealousy can't be ruled out as a danger in their relationship.

Since Air and Fire mix well in sexual compatibility, she can arouse waves of passion in him with the extremes of simply a gentle glance - or a stimulating intellectual debate. The first inspires him to the kind of tender (but also burning)need Romeo felt when he climbed Juliet's balcony. The second causes the same burning need, without the tenderness, because the awareness of a male that a woman is his intellectual equal never fails to stimulate him with the uncontrollable need to answer it as the deep and feral mating challenge it really is on a subconscious level. There's something serene and soothing about her that calms his restless spirit, just as there is something in his physical nearness that excites her imagination - and this causes the sexual union between them to be a happy kind of sharing. There may be times when she seems indefinably elusive to him,as though her body lies within his embrace, but a part of her is elsewhere, and this will trouble him. It shouldn't because it's the nature of air to be elusive, and this is what enchanted him about her in the beginning. The occasional fierceness or demanding aspect of his lovemaking may disturb her more tranquil aura at times, but it shouldn't. It's just another reflection of his enthusiastic, honest and direct emotions that caused her to tremble with the longing for submission when she first knew she loved him. It's the strangest thing, how a man or woman will fall in love with each other for a particular reason, then later fail to recognize some prismed facet of that special quality in the person.

People in love can fall out of love as quickly as they fell into love, when they have only their sexual chemistry to interest each other. There's not much chance of that with Libra and Sagittarius. They'll always have plenty to talk about. She sees the small boy behind his bravado, and would like to spend her whole life educating him. Every Libra woman has a schoolteacher hidden somewhere inside her. He's so curious about everything, understanding how a woman feels and what causes her emotions intrigues him. He has a thousand questions,to which she has at least two thousand answers. He'll teach her a lot too, with his quick grasp of what's really important.

"What will I do?" she worries. "I don't know whether we belong together or not. My heart is optimistic about our future, but my mind is pessimistic."

"You can't decide our future by what your intellect tells you alone." (His eyes are saying more intimate things.) "The intellect alone is an unsuitable instrument for accurately measuring an extraordinary emotion like love. The mind is clever, but the heart is wiser. Trust your feelings." He takes her in his arms, holds her very close, then kisses her nose lightly. "Listen to the rain on the roof, like that first night we were together. What do your feelings tell you
right this minute, darling?" (He's quick.)

WEBSTER: quick: sensitive; perceptive
in a high degree.

LIBRA Man - CAPRICORN Woman

All he thinks he has a right to, when he comes to you to be
yours, is fairness. After you have been unfair to him, he
will love you again, but he will never afterwards be quite
the same boy.

Oddly and unfortunately or fortunately (I really can't decide which, nor can Libra) this otherwise tense and challenging 4-10 Sun Sign Pattern-influenced relationship is blessed with an inherent positive-plus factor the Libra man and his Goat Girl may not utilize. Taking into account, naturally, the normal number of exceptions that prove the rule, a Libra man is one of the six Sun Sign males - the others being Aries, Gemini, Sag, Aquarius and Pisces - who (if he's not one of the rare, perverse exceptions) is likely to agree with many, if not all, of the platforms proposed by the Women's Liberation Movement. Why not? He's fair. He's just. He's tolerant and adaptable to change, whether within his own personal sphere, or concerning the sweeping changes of social reform. He's thoughtful, logical, reasonable - and pleasantly willing to listen to all opposing sides, including the opposing sides of the Aquarian Age male-female conflict.

On the other swing of the pendulum, the Capricorn woman was born under a Cardinal Sign of leadership (as was he) and she must lead something or someone at sometime - somewhere. She enjoys being in charge of her own life, and of everything and everyone else she can manage to wisely guide and discipline with the "grandma knows best" attitude that hangs over her (which began hanging around her aura when she was approximately six years old). She's marvelously qualified as a Capitalized Career Woman, makes a splendid executive, and is capable of keeping everything serenely functioning in a down-to-earth, sensible way, whether it's the heartbreaking and backbreaking task of holding together a fatherless home in a ghetto, and being the great comforting rock of stability and self-preservation for the whole neighborhood - presiding over an antique boutique, a service station (some Goat Girls do) or a trucking company laying down the rules for a brokerage firm, running a car wash or a finishing school for sheep dogs. With her well-bred voice and manner (whatever her actual background) and her cool common sense, she's exquisitely equipped to be a successful C.W.

Now consider her Libra man - more likely than not to be liberal in his view of his lady working or pursuing a career. Wouldn't you say that was a positive plus factor between them? The reason they don't always take advantage of it is probably more her fault than his.

Although she needs to lead - being, as noted earlier, Cardinal, like Libra the typical Capricorn shrinks from the idea of leading out front, in a showy way.The Goat (male or female) prefers to be the "spider" in the corner, who pulls the strings behind-the-scenes and makes it all happen, with no fuss and fanfare. It's difficult for the Goat Girl to find the sort of leadership niche she seeks in the business world. Things haven't yet progressed far enough to create the ideal situation. With extremely rare and fortunate exceptions, the Capricorn woman usually finds but two choices open to her in the success sweepstakes: (a) an underling job at low pay, because she's a female - or (b) a position worthy of her
abilities, which can only be attained by advancing herself aggressively and receiving lots of attention from everyone (like Business Week and IRS) once she's arrived. Since she refuses to meekly follow orders, to be a small cog in the wheel, and because a pinnacle of power that demands the sacrifice of her personal privacy isn't the kind of leadership she's after - the typical, rather shy Goat Girl either finds her place as a professional in the arts, or some similar"loner" type endeavor - or decides to become the "spider in the corner" at home, contentedly fulfilling her Sun Sign ambitions by weaving her webs of strategy unobtrusively, in the background, "leading" and directing her husband, children, relatives and friends in such a subtle way, they hardly suspect it.

So here they are. A Libra man who's cheerfully willing to have his lady work outside the home - and a Capricorn woman who would just as soon make him her career. You know that truism about "behind every successful man there's a woman"? It's often a Capricorn woman. Goats don't waste their valuable time on anything short of success. If this ambitious woman guides her man,she certainly isn't going to guide him toward failure. Whatever she's helping him achieve, her eye is on the most fruitful result. The thing is, he might prefer her to follow her Cardinal instincts outside, rather than inside the home. He adores being the man to whom she's loyal and devoted, the man she loves and cherishes and protects (against himself), but he may rebel at being made her"lifetime career."

He is of the Air Element, and the first lesson an "earthy" female must learn about the "airy" man she loves (especially the Cardinal Air Sign) is that "air"seeks freedom of movement, and simply cannot bear restriction - or it becomes stale. Not only that, it will escape the instant the lid is removed. Leave an Air Sign man alone to drift and to dream, to roam mentally, following the breezes of his inclinations, and he'll happily remain more or less nearby. Try to bottle him or box him in, and he'll become "windy," argumentive and resentful - easily stirred into a tornado or hurricane of anger. Then he'll storm away.

If she's genuinely contrite and truly wants him back, he might return. She'll have to be fair enough to acknowledge her mistake and ask for his understanding of her side of the situation. No, let's change that. Acknowledging her mistake and asking for his understanding is fine. He'll probably respond like an absolute angel. But it may not be wise to try to get him to see her side of the disagreement openly, that is. It's always a mistake with a Libran to make a point of defending a particular side of any question, if you expect compromise from him. Enumerate all the positive factors of one side, and this man will instinctively use all his mental energy, deductive reasoning and brilliant logic (with which he is, please believe, more than amply endowed) in making it all balance out even on his Scales by eloquently defending the opposite side whatever the opposite side may be. Never mind which side he thought his sympathies were with before. He'll change his mind (even a long-held conviction) just to win an interesting debate. Something about the challenge of an argument seems to hypnotize him, until he actually forgets where he stood before the"discussion" began.

This is Libra's Achilles Heel, and few of them realize it. I personally think it's mean and unfair to take advantage of the poor man's Sun Sign weakness, but there could be extenuating circumstances when the end might justify the means. In such a circumstance, the wise Goat Girl will take his side all the way, make it clear that she's been completely wrong, recite a sort of monologue (difficult for Cappy, but she can practice by observing his own verbal finesse) containing all the reasons he is right and she is woefully wrong, giving herself not the slightest edge, making it all seem obviously lopsided and unfair to her. It will work like a charm.

He'll be helpless, unable to resist his strong Sun Sign "judgeship" instincts, and begin to point out to her all the flaws in her argument, show her where she's being unfair to herself, offer to take at least half the blame - and end up just where she wants him - making a spoken declaration of his comprehension of the things he's done to hurt and worry her, which caused her to behave as possessively and poutingly as she did. He'll barely know what happened, except that, somehow, he has honestly begun to see where maybe she was justified in her feelings. Soon he'll become his normal sweet and sentimental self again, ask for forgiveness and coax her to have faith in a new beginning. Then he'll smile his outrageous Venus smile. And it happens. The resurrected rush of remembered trembling, the familiar yearning. And sorrow, too. From comprehending the pain caused, that wasn't meant to hurt, but was a reaction to hurt - on both sides. Sorrow is always followed by compassion, the overwhelming need to forgive and to be forgiven. A Capricorn woman can resist (if she chooses) any temptation ever conjured to test the human soul. But not even she can long hold out against the blinding brightness of the Libra smile. She'll answer it with her own little shy Goat grin, her eyes and her heart will soften simultaneously and roses will bloom again in January's snow.

She may not, however, melt into his arms immediately, if the snowflakes are still falling inside her. He'll have to use all his tenderness and charm to reverse her frigid withdrawal, after he's caused her to feel rejected. Just as she'll have to use all her gentle persuasion to heal the wounds in his optimistic nature she inflicted by her cold, disapproving manner. But this woman can be surprisingly gentle when she trusts the man with whom she's making love. Their sexual harmony will be at times elusive. Nevertheless, it's attainable when both of them unselfishly seek to know what it is the other needs, recognize the differences of desire, and honestly try to bridge them . . . softening the traits that offend and imitating the qualities in each other they individually admire. Saturn's restrictive influence can make her appear too reserved and unresponsive to the romantic and verbally expressive Libra man. Because her approach to sex is one of slow sensuality, his light and airy seeming detachment can leave her feeling empty and yearning for a more tangible passion. But if he tries, he'll be gladdened and amazed by the unsuspected affection and sentiment buried within her, needing only his patience to bring it out. And she'll discover there's much she can teach this man about the deep earthiness of physical union and sexual intimacy that he's touchingly anxious to learn from her. Each of them will benefit by trying to be more like the other. She must try to be more expressive; he must try to be more concentrated during their lovemaking. Then all will be well.

A Libra man contains a bottomless well of sentiment, yet he may not be sensitive enough to his Capricorn woman's silent secrets. Sometimes his logic and clear thinking get in the way of his understanding of the human heart. He's fair and sympathetic, but often in such a mental way that he neglects to comprehend the motives behind what she's doing or saying. Libra isn't noted for a perception of human emotions - more for analyzing the result of emotions, their outward manifestation in words and deeds. For all his airy refinement and artistic leanings, his talent for "romance," he can appear "cool" to the Goat Girl, whose own nature is richer with various shades and tones and levels of the heights and depths of all human longings.

They are both moody. He swings from high to low, from cheerful and sweet to cranky and domineering, several times in the course of a week, or even a single day. Her moods are neither as swift nor as multiple. Saturn's depression clouds gather more gradually, over an extended period of time, disturb her more seriously - and last much longer.

She needs his rainbows of hope. He needs her haven of dependability. And someone once wrote that being needed is as good as being loved. Sometimes. . . even better. Because there's a kind of love that blooms too quickly, like a fragile blossom, briefly beautiful, but easily bruised by frost, unable to withstand the first wind of a storm. "Needing" seeds a sturdy, more familiar kind of love, that grows quietly into a strong tree, with roots that remain in Earth, branches that offer shade . . . leaves that sing in the wind a lyric lovely enough for Libra, yet practical enough for Capricorn. Trees don't grow overnight. They must be nurtured throughout the patient waiting of many seasons. But they last. Trees are forever. Libra and Capricorn might meditate on the mysterious truth hidden in Tagore's words, that the faith waiting in the heart of a seed ... promises a miracle of life which it cannot prove."

The LIBRA - AQUARIUS Relationship

The bubbles of many colours made in rainbow water they
treat as balls, hitting them gaily from one to another with
their tails, and trying to keep them in the rainbow till they
burst.

Libra is forever blowing bubbles, and Aquarius is forever bursting them. For a while, it's all hysterically funny, full of joy, like a game. But after a time it wears a little thin. Then Libra will become cranky, and Aquarius will be furious over being misunderstood.

Libra will accuse Aquarius of being stubborn. (That's true - Aquarius is a Fixed Sign.) Aquarius will accuse Libra of being bossy. (That's also true, because Libra is a Cardinal Sign of leadership.) After they've told each other the truth, Libra will try to be fair, and admit to a touch of bossiness, apologizing so sweetly the Water Bearer feels mean to keep insisting that he (or she) is not stubborn. Yet Aquarius will go right on being mean in not admitting this character flaw, because people born under a Fixed Sun Sign nearly always find it impossible to see their faults as anything but virtues. Besides, Aquarius thinks such discussions are a waste of time. People either get along or they don't. If
they don't, they shouldn't even be talking together. They should wave goodbye, and head on down the road. If they do, they shouldn't be expending energy on fighting. Life is too full of interesting things to do. That's how Aquarius wins arguments. (These people are extremely practical when it comes to wasted motion, and a trifle selfish when it comes to seeing any side but their own.) What I should have said is that's how Aquarius wins arguments with most people. It will not be quite so easy to win when Libra is the other member of the debating team. Very few people top Libra in the argumentive, debating or discussion department.

Aquarians have a way of winning a fight with their hats. They put them on and leave. It's a strategy the Water Bearer may utilize when he (or she) senses Libra is winning through pure logic.

Because both of them belong to the Air or mental element, when they're not involved in a verbal dispute, they'll be sharpening their fine minds with positive conversations, which are never less than stimulating and challenging, all the way from exciting to inspiring. Also, since they're under the influence of the 5-9 Sun Sign Pattern vibration, only rarely will a Libra-Aquarius disagreement be serious or lasting. There will always be an emotional and mental foundation for forgiveness and a new start. Even among those very few Libra-Aquarian people who part and are no longer close friends, who eventually drift away from a day to day association for some reason, the chances are that neither will retain any bitterness or speak harshly about the other, for whatever these two may say or do, beneath it all, they understand each other better than they do most other people they both know. Libra and Aquarius often have a common interest in children, animals, higher education, travel to foreign lands, religion, philosophy and the arts. Their Suns are trined, and this gives them intertwined dreams and ideals, regardless of any personal differences they may have from time to time.

Whether the Water Bearer admits it or not, he (or she) recognizes and respects the fact that Libra always tries hard to be fair and impartial. Whether Libra admits it or not, he (or she) recognizes and respects the Aquarian quality of tolerance and the Uranian humanitarian goals. The inescapable admiration and respect are always there between them, even when all that air is being blown around in an intellectual confrontation. The basic compatibility is strong and good, for these two understand each other's motives, however often they may heatedly try to deny it.There may be occasions when the delicate balance of Libra's Scales is temporarily upset by the eccentric behavior of the Uranus-ruled person. Aquarians tend to behave in an extremely emotional manner when they're angry, and at such times Libra can actually become physically ill from the tension. Venus people require harmony, and tension can affect their nerves to a marked degree. There may be other times when Libra's tendency to always look at both sides of a question will seem like disloyalty to Aquarians, who believe, as I've already mentioned, that there is only one side - their own. The opinions of a Fixed Sign are, quite naturally perhaps, more fixed than flexible. Aquarians are truly totally unprejudiced and tolerant, except when it comes to a personal, emotional confrontation.

Most Librans, except for those who have heavy afflictions to the natal Sun in their horoscopes, influenced as they are by the gentle planet Venus, possess what Hemingway called "grace under pressure." This will come in handy when Aquarius unpredictably blows a Uranus fuse, for the Water Bearers are susceptible to electrical impulses from the cosmos, and whatever they do, they're likely to do it impulsively and suddenly. The Libra person often brings on the very problems he (or she) wants to avoid by not leaving well enough alone. After a typical electrical outburst of eccentric behavior, Aquarians normally disappear, and refuse to communicate at all for a period of time. If they're left alone, they'll eventually forget what it was that troubled them and become their normal crazy, lovable and fascinating selves. But Libra may keep pressing for an explanation or continue to try to win a decisive victory regarding the disagreement, rather than allowing it to be forgiven and forgotten. Aquarians can't stand being pinned down for an answer. It makes them feel like a butterfly
caught in a jar, and that's a mighty uncomfortable feeling. Librans don't mind in the least being pinned down for an answer. It gives them the golden opportunity to weight the pros against the cons, an exercise they find enormously energizing,as long as everyone remains polite and considerate, and no one starts yelling in an uncouth manner. Their individual reactions to conflict and controversy constitute an important basic difference between them, but once they've comprehended this, and made allowances for it, Libra and Aquarius can float around a home, a classroom, a laboratory, a space capsule, an office or a barn on  the fluffy clouds of mutual cooperation.

Libra can teach coolness and calm to Aquarius, and the Water Bearer can teach Libra that nothing in this world is black or white, one or the other - everything is grey, a mixture; therefore, tolerance is the only way to balance life on anyone's scales. Aquarius is the inventor of new ideas; Libra is the architect who designs them for practical use.

Libran sensibilities are easily offended; yet the human mind has never conceived of anything capable of offending the Aquarian sensibilities. Absolutely nothing shocks an Aquarian, while any idea, conversation or object that doesn't have flowers painted on it in pastel shades will shock Libra's refined tastes. Being a Water Bearer, and also being deeply concerned about the future of the planet, it's only natural that an Aquarian will become enthusiastic over the sound ecological concept of something like the Mullbank waterless toilet. The Water Bearer will excitedly point out to Libra that this is the only way to save all the waters on Earth from fast approaching total pollution, because of the ever-growing population, and the resulting additional tons of sewage spilled into our lakes, rivers, streams and oceans each year. As he (or she) warms to the subject, the Aquarian will expound the theory that the government should pass a law requiring every home to use a waterless toilet, allowing the cost to be deducted from the sum of money owed to the IRS that year by each person who installs one to replace the current polluting and water-wasting flush toilet plumbing."Just think!" exclaims Aquarius, "there's absolutely no odor, and the only waste to be disposed of once a year for a family of six is what would amount to a coffee can of ashes (also with no odor) which can be sprinkled on the grass or the garden to make everything grow better and faster!" (See page 910 for manufacturer's addresses.)

Now, Libra would very much like to espouse anything that guarantees keeping the ecological "balance," but the detailing of anything so scatological concerning the indelicate process of elimination is likely to cause furious blushing, and an expression of extreme distaste, to pass across those beautiful and even Libran features.

"Okay, okay," shrugs Aquarius angrily, "if you'd rather go on drinking and bathing in water polluted by other people's body waste, and insure that your grandchildren, and maybe even yourself and your own children, won't have a drop of pure water to drink in a decade or two, keep flushing your damned toilet, and spraying your bathroom with artificial carnation scents in aerosol cans that are destroying the ozone layer around the Earth, but just remember, you were warned. It's peat moss, compost and manure that are going to save this planet, not perfumed luxury, bubble baths and all your fancy art and music."

Out stalks the Water Bearer in a huff, leaving Libra behind to lie down and recuperate from the ugliness of it all, in a state of near nervous collapse from the ordeal of mentally weighing the trays marked: Survival - and Judgment Day.

A few minutes later, the Aquarian suddenly returns, shouts loudly, "I SAID MANURE!" then slams the door and leaves again. Libra's dimples collapse, in a state of shock. That's how Aquarius wins an argument.

Libra's seesaw indecision will cause Aquarius to become rattled, just as the Uranus tendency of Aquarians to pull a complete turnabout, once a decision has already been made (Libra never does that), will drive the Libra man or woman squirrels. "Make up your mind!" yells Aquarius.

"Well, at least I don't change my mind, once it's made up, the way you're always doing," replies Libra defensively, but softly.

"How would you know?" retorts Aquarius. "You've never made a decision in your life."

Libra smiles radiantly. The room lights up with a thousand candles, a million Suns. "I made the decision to be your friend, didn't I? And I've never regretted it. Other people may think you're crazy, but I think you're a genius.Did I tell you I ordered a waterless toilet?"

Aquarius is shamed into silence. Libra smiles again, dimples winking on and off. "Gee, I'm sorry," finally mumbles the contrite Water Bearer. "Sometimes I say the nuttiest things. I really don't know what I'd do without you."(And that's how Libra wins arguments.) It requires study.

LIBRA Woman - AQUARIUS Man

"Tink," he rapped out, "if you don't get up and dress at
once I will open the curtains, and then we shall all see you
in your negligee."
This made her leap to the floor. "Who said I wasn't getting
up?" she cried.

Unless they both enjoy having their emotions blown about in continual hurricanes and tornadoes, it will be best to establish in the very beginning who of these two walks in front in the game of follow-the-leader these two play. The Chief walks in front. The Squaw walks a few steps behind. Smoke that in your Peace Pipe, please, for the sake of tranquility.

The Libra girl will simply have to understand that she is the female, the lady, the woman - and he's the masculine half of the duet. He sings baritone, she sings soprano. She might have been born under the influence of a masculine Sun Sign, but she's under the guidance of the gentle feminine planet Venus. No one, not even Bella Abzug, plus the entire staff of Ms. magazine, will ever successfully
remove the femininity from Venus, with any amount of liberation surgery. This isn't to say that I'm not with you, Bella. I'm with you and Gloria and the others all the way. I'm an Aries Ms., and Rams come kicking and screaming into this world liberated before the umbilical cord has been cut. (I even named my new girl kitty ERA - before I knew for sure she was a girl.) But Truth is Truth, and Venus is Venus. To put it another way, Truth is Beauty, and Beauty is Truth. All those platitudes. I didn't invent the wisdom behind them. Mr. and Ms. God invented it. Our co-Creators. Protest to them, not to me. I'm a mere astrologer, an interpreter of the law, not its architect.

The Aquarian male was born under the influence of a masculine Sun Sign too, but unlike the Libra woman, he is, in addition, under the strong and rather arrogant guidance of the masculine planet Uranus (the male charisma is always a bit arrogant, don't you think?). There are certain astrological birds and bees blueprints that have nothing to do with chauvinism or equality of the sexes, or with any of those transient things. They simply exist. Even in the area of the Aquarian-symbolized homosexuality, they exist. That's not to imply that all Aquarians are homosexual, only that the Aquarian essence is tolerant of all lifestyles, representing brotherhood and universal love, unprejudiced by male-female hang-ups, which sometimes gets translated into the homosexual concept by members of all twelve Sun Signs who become confused by the vibrations of Uranus, even stronger now, in the dawning of the Aquarian Age. It's a simple matter of respecting individuality.

The planetary blueprints exist as unavoidably as the two distinctly different kinds of anatomical design of male and female exist. As free and equal as women ever aspire to be, they will be, for all eternity, designed differently from men, and astrological influences are just as inevitable and unchangeable.

A Libra girl may try to sweetly and softly maneuver for position with her Water Bearer, to manipulate him into her own program and pattern of living, and he'll go along at first, when he's overcome by her dimples and divine charm, not to mention her starburst smile - but there will come the time when he will balk. The stubbornness of a Fixed Aquarian male when he's had enough makes a mule look like the most docile, easily led and persuaded creature in the world. This man won't move a fraction of an inch when he believes he's right. His personal code of manhood and his general public code of morality were delivered to him engraved on a stone tablet, from a hand extended behind a burning bush, maybe belonging to a relative of Moses, who knows? But he remembers the day well. It was before he was born. No influence on this Earth will sway an Aquarian from a course of action he honestly thinks is right and just. You'll notice I said right and just (according to his personal code) - I didn't say anything about fair. Fair is her department. And this is what will cause a major portion of the trouble between these two who are basically so truly compatible - the definition of what is fair. I'll give you an example.

A number of years ago in New York, I knew a Libra girl and her Aquarian friend. (I guess they were friends. They didn't say anything about being lovers, but you never know with Aquarius, because this man is unable to distinguish between love and friendship, and if it's the former, he's not the kind to buy a billboard to announce it.) But anyway, the Libra girl gave her Aquarian friend a gift, a fat, chubby St. Bernard puppy. It grew. It grew into a Giant Dog at the same rate the Aquarian man's devotion for his new pet grew. Eventually, the two of them quarreled. (Not the St. Bernard and the Water Bearer, the Libra girl and the Water Bearer.) She weighed the whole situation carefully (and I'm sure sincerely) on her Scales, to try to reach a fair solution. After many traumatic hours of deliberation, she arrived at what she saw as a fair decision.

He had made a promise to always be her friend. Then he started behaving like the Loch Ness monster, completely ignoring his promise, and after all, he was the one who kept harping on the holiness, the sacredness of friendship"If you're really my friend, you'll do this or that" - or - "If you were really my friend, you wouldn't do this or that," he was always telling her. She had given him the St. Bernard when she thought they were friends. It had been a gift predicated upon the association, which no longer was valid. And now she had made up her mind. (Once Librans finally make up their minds, they don't fool around.) She called the sheriff, and insisted that the dog be returned.

The Water Bearer was furious. He considered all manner of things in reaction to this injustice. Maybe even painting her hair green, or tossing a live hornet's nest into her bedroom window. The St. Bernard had become his best friend in all the world, and now she was taking back her gift - kidnapping his
buddy?

The violence of his wounded emotions churned within him, until there was no choice but to leave New York for many months until he cooled off. If this Libra lady had had any hope that her action would bring him to his senses, she had made a dangerous miscalculation of the Uranus vibration. She not only broke his heart, she broke their friendship into a thousand pieces, and that's almost an impossibility with an Aquarian - especially in a relationship with Libra, because their Suns are trined, and the essential understanding of the 5-9 Pattern influence supports almost every difficulty they might encounter. Not this one. You don't separate an Aquarian from his Giant Dog Buddy. It's one of the Uranus laws enraved (also engraved) on that stone tablet. And now it has a large crack in it.

A serious mistake, the Libra lady made. She may be able to repair the damage someday, but it will take a lot of patience and humility. If she had just waited a little while longer, he would have stopped behaving like the Loch Ness monster. One has to give Aquarians time to turn around when they're temporarily standing on their heads, contemplating the cosmos and chewing peanut butter balls. Eventually, they'll apologize for whatever outrageously eccentric behavior they exhibited. But they won't be pushed into contrition, especially not by dognapping. It was an educational experience for the Libra girl.

Once these two have reached a comfortable compromise concerning their individual concepts of what is fair, and have developed a slide rule they mutually agree upon to measure justice in a human relationship, they can collect all the rewards and benefits of the 5-9 Sun Sign Pattern influence, and soak in the magical alchemy of the double Air Element, with the music of their trined Suns chiming in the background of all their shared activities. As a matter of fact, music is often the golden cord that draws the Libra woman and the Aquarius man together initially in some manner, either a common interest in it, or the encouragement of one for the other's pursuit of it. Sometimes it's art, sometimes religion, philosophy or travel to foreign countries, higher educational endeavors, children, young people or the theatre in some form.. but there will always be multiple areas they can see as smooth stepping-stones into their garden of compassion and warm compatibility of ideas and ideals.

He thinks she's beautiful, and although love is blind, he's probably right in his image of this Venus lady's pulchritude. Most Libra women do possess an extra abundance of ethereal beauty, and even those who aren't blockbusting beauties have gorgeous smiles that can daze a man's vision and temporarily paralyze his common sense. She thinks he's the most super-smart man she's ever known.
Granted, his intelligence is puzzling at times; it turns and twists down some strange detours, with the unconfined imagination of true genius, bubbling into fountains of brilliance, then erupting into tornadoes of illogical reasoning. The occasional lack of logic in his thinking disturbs her a little, but she's mentally alert and clever enough herself to sense the scope of the intellect groping within his unpredictable inspiration for a foothold on reality. He likewise appreciates her fine mind, quickly perceives her ability to converse with him on a variety of topics, and therefore hold his interest with more than her curves and dimples.

Still, on the mental and philosophical level, there may be some sharp disagreements. She enjoys luxury, beauty and comfort. Her optimistic nature causes her to turn in distaste from anything ugly, unhappy or depressing, and this Libran languidness may clash with his great, sweeping humanitarian impulses. He's concerned about the starving children all over the world, the dangerous ecological imbalance, the pollution of our air and water, the plight of the American Indian - all manner of evil and decadence on the human level, and regarding Mother Nature. Her difficulty in coping with the unpleasant will cause him to believe she's guilty of selfishness and self-indulgence, and he'll tell her so bluntly. Libra is deeply concerned with injustice in any form, instinctively desiring to bring about equality and goodness in the world; yet she may, like all Librans, shrink at first from facing the necessary specifics of healing the world's ills because of her natural Venus reluctance to face and accept the negative aspects of Life.

He should lead her more gently into a full realization of her Libra sense of justice, not call her mean things like "lazy," "spoiled brat" and "uncaring" before she's found her way to the light from the torch he carries. As for her, she must learn to change her priorities if she's to live happily with this man, finding ways to make him know that she really does care more about the poverty and misery in the world than the latest fashions, the sleekest cars, parties, good times and culture or the arts. The Libra woman who insists on wearing fur coats, especially sealskin coats, made from the skins of his murdered animal friends, is never going to be adored by an evolved and typical Water Bearer.

Despite these areas of potential tension between them, these two will find calmness and tranquility in their sexual blending. Their hearts and bodies agree with perfect harmony, never mind the occasional confrontations of their minds. And frequently, the joy they feel when they're giving and receiving love through its physical expression has the power to heal, or at least soften the edges of their intellectual differences. For Libra and Aquarius, intimacy of the flesh and emotions is easily attainable, and always results in peace of the spirit. In this facet of their love, they are beautifully in tune, their bodies are in key and their passions know the lyric of their lovemaking music by heart. It's as though they've blended in this very way many times before. And they have. For every 5-9 vibration indicates previous incarnations of closeness... a mating of the souls and bodies in half-remembered past lives, still possessing the power to haunt them with an indefinable nostalgia, especially during their times of sexual nearness. The first time of their physical union never seems like the "first time." There's something so familiar about the way they feel.

The Libra woman who wants to hold the elusive love of an Aquarian man must allow him to take the lead. There is no other way. Yet it's more than possible that, after all their disagreements and hurts and heartaches and ego battles are over, she will have the last word. If she's patient. Her wisest attitude can be summed up in this verse I hereby dedicate to her, called "Pass the Peace Pipe"or "The Capitulation of a Cardinal Sign."

you want to call the shots? all right, jump on your horse
and I'll walk three respectful steps behind .. like a proper squaw
you decide the course and byways our stream of madness shall run
how it bends and wanders .. and where and when it flows
into the land-of-the-singing-waters
I'll chew my moccasins, and string my wampum
in the pale, new Moon, beside my wickiup
and wait for your bird call, tom-tom beat or smoke puff
but remember, brave Chief Rain-in-the-Heart
while you lead us down this sun-danced warpath
of pride and passion, truth and lie
the spirits of the wind and stars are watching
and it's Manitou who calls the final shots
... not you or I

LIBRA Man - AQUARIUS Woman

... there was something in the right-hand corner of her
mouth that wanted her not to call Peter names.

Her name isn't really Debra, but let's call her Debra. His name isn't really Steve, but let's call him Steve. The names may be fictional, but I assure you that this man and woman are actual, living, breathing human beings. Their natal Suns are trined. Debra is a petite, ponytailed Aquarian Water Bearer, sweetly child-like and feminine (Ha!), who is brilliantly, if at times violently, ruled by the masculine planet Uranus. Steve is a Venus-ruled Libra man, whose intelligence and genius are an equal match for her own. He is sometimes mellow and gentle and kind, at other times just plain mean and despicable, depending a great deal upon how recently she has smashed his delicate Scales out of balance with the sledgehammer of her unpredictable Uranian behavior. They're both working toward their M.D.'s and Ph.D.'s, with a common goal of becoming medical research scientists who will discover something of great benefit to mankind and womankind. Rather like America's answer to the Curies of France.

Isn't it odd that one always thinks of the latter as Madame Curie and her husband, instead of the other way around? There must be a lesson there. Perhaps the lesson that it doesn't matter which horse wears the garland of posies as long as the wagon gets to town.

We shall use Steve and Debra's relationship as a mirror for all Libra men and Aquarian space women for a few paragraphs. All right, are you all gazing into the mirror? Look closely now.He vacillates. He can't decide whether to marry her, live with her, ignore her or leave her. She has no such problem. She knows exactly which of those arrangements she prefers, and her mind is as firm as a rock. On Sundays, she wants to marry him. Every other Tuesday, she's positive they should just live together until they receive their degrees. On certain Uranian-storm-tossed Thursdays, she prefers that he ignore her, which is painfully evident when she leaves the receiver of her phone off the hook and throws the double police lock on her door. On occasional dreary Saturdays, flashed by Uranus lightning, she emphatically wishes him to leave her, a desire she manages to clearly communicate by throwing all his clothes out the upstairs bedroom window, plus his new watch, which unfortunately never seems to survive the fall - and often including his term papers, which of course get blown around in the snow and ice and terribly smudged and therefore must be typed all over again. But let no one accuse ====her of being impartial.

On such dreary Saturdays she also cuts into confetti the pages of her own thesis, on which she has labored long and brain-fatiguing hours, and dramatically flushes them down the toilet, announcing loudly that she's decided to hitchhike across Europe and join a gypsy caravan, and who wants a stuffy old medical degree anyway?

He can't leave well enough alone, and instead of being happy when she's in a conciliatory mood and invites him over for her special home-baked lasagna, he insists on knowing the name of the gypsy who invited her to join his caravan in Europe. He keeps it up. She makes up a name out of her very fertile imagination. He leaves angrily, without eating a bite of the dinner she spent all day
cooking for him.

There was a time when he finally decided they should never see each other again. He packed up his dog and his microscope and his sprouts and left her for good, going so far as to move in with a friend in another city, and getting an unlisted phone number. She quickly located both his address and his phone number.(I keep telling you Aquarians are born detectives.) A few months later, he was bringing her flowers and poems and stuffed monkeys - and taking her out to dinner by candlelight twice a week. Shortly thereafter, he moved back in with his dog, his microscope, his sprouts and three male friends (to protect him).

The first night, they dismally failed to protect him. Following a rousing quarrel over the fact that he had turned their happy home into a boardinghouse,he and his three friends went to sleep on the floor of the den, after carefully locking the door. He was locking her out? In a house where she paid half the rent? And he considered himself fair? She wasn't a fledgling scientist for nothing.

It took her until three o'clock in the morning, but eventually she prepared,in the kitchen sink, using some experimental homework test tubes, a dreadful concoction of chemicals with an ammonia base, then carefully poured it into a squirt gun (yes, this really happened), which she proceeded to squirt under the door to the den, which she had also locked from her side. Fortunately, the den had windows, through which the four gasping men escaped the fumes that had awakened them from a sound sleep. They at first thought it was a UFO attack.(It's easy to mistake an Aquarian caper for an interplanetary zapping.) Of course, when they climbed out the windows, they walked all over the Libra man's clothes and his watch, which were strewn around on the ground, waiting for him. Understandably, they were both late for class that day.

Now, I know you aren't going to believe this (unless you're a Libra male or an Aquarian female), but Debra and Steve kissed and made up a few weeks following that Close Encounter, and the last time I heard they were blissfully studying their anatomy and biochemistry together.

They love, you see. They need one another. Because there's no one else who can heal her heart as tenderly as her Libra man, with his sunlit smile - no one else who would ever love him, with all his flaws and vices, as fiercely and loyally and faithfully as his volatile Water Bearer - and certainly there's no one else either of them can intellectually respect as much as they do each other. When she isn't squirting guns under the den door, she's super intelligent, cuddly and affectionate, as dear and desirable as a small puppy. When he isn't being cold and cranky and callous, he's gentle and amusing and clever, and very loving. Then too, there's her home-baked lasagna. And the fact that he's the only
man who will ever say "I love you" to her with genuine tears in his eyes, or who would sentimentally wear a smashed wristwatch with the hands permanently set at midnight, because it was a gift from her.

Every time she quarrels with her Libra man, this Aquarian woman phones me around dawn, tearfully, with the same touching words: "He said he was my friend. Friends should understand each other, shouldn't they? I don't care about all the rest of it, but he said he was my friend."

Aquarians of both sexes place a high value on friendship. You may behave as you like as a lover or husband or wife, but friendship must live up to an inflexible code. There are certain things friends do. And there are certain things friends don't do. Friends do not talk about you to other people, unless they're saying nice things. Friends do not break promises. Friends accept you with all your faults. Friends are never disloyal - and friends are there when you need them. Aquarians rarely realize that their definition of friendship is interchangeable with the definition of real love. The Water Bearers never ask for more in friendship than they're willing to give in return. The only difference between the Uranus ideals of friendship and love is the combination of the sexes involved, and in the Aquarian Age, it's difficult to draw the line of distinction.

The Libra man absolutely must have peace and harmony in his environment.Without it, he will inevitably become seriously ill physically, mentally, emotionally - or all three. This is an unbreakable law of astrology concerning the Venus-ruled. Consequently, the Aquarian woman who truly loves this man will make a sincere attempt to stifle her eccentricities (except for the stimulating and challenging ones) and exert a strong effort to bring calm and quiet to their relationship. This is not always an easy task for the girl Water Bearer, because a Libra man will perversely create much of his own disharmony by trying too hard to please everyone, working too hard for months on end, until he's on the verge of collapse, and worrying about how to make everyone like him and like each other besides. He either tries to be Henry Kissinger with all his friends, taking on everyone's burdens - or he gives up on trying to make everything come out even, and burns the candle of his creativity at both ends, tryinyto prove to the world that he, at least, is doing his very best - when the world isn't even aware that he's out there running around in circles to please it.

When he becomes unbearably frustrated, he may turn to drinking and partying to excess, then suffer from pangs of guilt over neglecting his woman, his studies, his work, his physical health, and so forth. Libra men work hard and they play hard. They possess an unerring instinct for compromising disagreements and mediating troublesome situations smoothly and effortlessly. Yet they can't seem to acquire the knack of bringing their own minds and bodies into equilibrium and balance with each other. This man will go like sixty for long periods of time, never relaxing for a moment; then he'll drop in a heap on the bed, and lie there so still for so long, the Aquarian woman who loves him will fear he's slipped into a catatonic trance, or has succumbed to a fatal attack of sleeping sickness. He's only resting. That's all, just resting. Leave him alone, and he'll soon be himself again, once he's recouped his energies and rejuvenated his spirit. If you must join him, play music for him, read softly to him, make sure his room is neat and tidy and bright and cheerful, with lots of fresh air and don't discuss anything negative with him. This is not the time to coax him into agreeing with you, when the poor man is flat on his back. There are more pleasant ways of soothing him during his quiet spells. Venus ways.

Love, in all its variations, certainly not excluding its sexual aspect, is as necessary to the Libra man as breathing. Friendship, in all its variations, is as necessary to the Aquarian woman as breathing. If he'll be her real friend, she'll be able to trust him with her heart, which will allow her to be as ardent a sexual and romantic partner as he could possibly desire, even when he's dreaming (and passion is a subject this man dreams about a lot). The reverse is also true.

If she'll be his lace Valentine girl, live up to his glorified image of womanhood (stop threatening him with imaginary gypsies) and respond to his lovemaking with a matching desire - he'll be the most loyal and faithful friend she could possibly hope for (and her hopes are gigantic in the friendship department). It's what you might call an even trade-off, with each giving the other what he or she needs most.

This woman is sexually turned off when her Libra lover or husband has hurt her in some way by breaking her friendship code, however briefly, in however minor a way. Likewise, this man finds it impossible to physically demonstrate his love for her when, a few hours before they embrace at night, she's won an intellectual argument and made him feel foolish in some trifling way. Both of them should apologize for the unintentional wounding of each other - and remember the ancient warning: Never let the Sun set on anger (which originated, not with your great-grandmother, but within the mass collective subconscious memory, symbolizing the dreadful twilight when Set murdered his brother, Osiris, causing the Earth's first "Sun-set." How the Earth existed without a sunset before that time we'll discuss in a forthcoming book. Aquarians will be fascinated).

Then the two of them, the Libra man and his Aquarius woman, should simply fall asleep quietly, holding hands, and not pursue love, but allow it to gently surprise them with its depth when they awaken in the morning. Libra and Aquarius will find their sexual love more fulfilling when they approach it lightly and reverently, even poetically, but never aggressively or demandingly. The lovemaking pattern of two Air Signs is very delicate. When their minds are in tune, their bodies will respond, and sing along in beautiful harmony. When their minds are troubled or confused, forcing love will only bruise its fragile loveliness . . . or freeze it into boredom.

These two are bound to hurt each other now and then, because they love so much. But the 5-9 vibration will ever renew their forgiveness, if they give it half a chance. This man can't bear to be alone; he must marry (or live as though he's married) or burn with frustration. The Libran who fights this instinctive urge within himself is a miserable male indeed. Aries, the opposite sign to Libra, vibrates to Sunrise, but Libra vibrates to Sunset.

Sunset is his lonely time, when he's most vulnerable to his Aquarian woman who wants to say "I'm sorry." The golden blaze of light at Sunset, when day is leaving, holds a poignant beauty. No other kind of light can bring so much pain to Libra, when there's no one special to be with, no one who really cares. Enveloped in the darkness of his terrible loneliness, he watches people stream out of office buildings into the day's final brightness, everyone going somewhere but him .. then suddenly he sees her, etched in pink-gold, walking toward him, uncertain.

He didn't plan to see her so unexpectedly like this, but he should have. Everything about her is unexpected. He hurries to her - and she walks faster too.He can tell she's been crying, because her nose is red. She's carrying a very large box, almost bigger than she is . . . a surprise for him. What could it be? Believe it or not (believe it), it's an electric train set from the F.A.O. Schwarz toy store on Fifth Avenue. That's for "what." As for "why"? Because he'd stared at it in the window one day for hours, when they were together, and said it was exactly like the one Santa had left under his tree Christmas morning when he was nine years old.

He doesn't know whether to laugh or weep. So he smiles instead. "Do you know you're crazy?" She nods. She knows. "Can we still be friends?" she asks him, unsure. He considers. "Only if you promise to come home with me and help me set up the train tracks," he tells her. She smiles back then. They hail a passing yellow-gold taxi, jump in together, close the doors... and she leans back against his shoulder at the very moment the Sun disappears from the sky... just in time. But it was close.
